Inter Milan Preparing for Potential Sale as Oaktree Explores Options

Inter Milan is reportedly exercising financial prudence due to Oaktree's preparations to divest the Serie A club. Oaktree, an American investment fund, initially provided a loan to the former owners, Suning. Following Suning's failure to meet repayment obligations, the club was effectively taken over by Oaktree in the summer of 2024.

It has always been understood that Oaktree's strategy involved restoring Inter to financial stability, reducing their debts, and increasing revenue with the ultimate goal of selling the club at a profit. According to reports from Corriere della Sera, this objective is nearing realization, as Oaktree is said to be initiating the process of identifying potential buyers.

Oaktree has demonstrably improved the club's financial standing, achieving a net positive revenue-to-cost ratio for two consecutive years. This is a significant turnaround, especially considering Inter's €245 million loss in the aftermath of the pandemic in 2021. The club's debt has been restructured, and plans are in motion for the construction of a new stadium, which will be shared with rivals AC Milan.

While a sale is not considered an immediate necessity, the prospect has always been part of Oaktree's long-term vision for Inter. With this in mind, the club aims to maintain disciplined financial management and avoid excessive spending on player transfers this summer.
