FMSI Congress: Biological Age and Healthspan in Sports Medicine

The 38th National Congress of the Italian Sports Medicine Federation (FMSI), scheduled from March 26 to 28 at the Rome Cavalieri Congress Center, centers around the theme "Biological age, chronological age." This core focus emphasizes the significant contribution of Sports Medicine to promoting a healthy lifespan, commonly referred to as Healthspan.

FMSI, uniquely recognized by the Italian Ministry of Health as a scientific society for Sports Medicine, leverages its profound expertise—developed through extensive collaboration with Olympic athletes—to positively influence biological age. By applying this knowledge, the federation aims to reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases and foster healthy longevity across the broader population. The congress seeks to introduce an integrated and cost-effective model for chronic disease prevention, combining the established competencies and practical experiences of Sports Medicine with the latest epigenetic studies, all for the betterment of the national healthcare and socio-economic systems.

The event will be formally inaugurated on Thursday, March 26, by Maurizio Casasco, who serves as President of both the Italian and European Federations of Sports Medicine. The comprehensive three-day scientific program boasts over 80 distinguished speakers and is expected to attract more than 3,200 registered medical professionals. Key topics slated for discussion include "Human aging and motor activities," "Update on neurosciences, physical exercise, and sport," "Women and movement," "Nutrition and sport," and "Milan-Cortina Olympics: research, innovation, and performance." A particularly central theme will be the "Prescription of physical exercise in cardiology," which will incorporate guidelines meticulously developed by FMSI in collaboration with leading cardiological scientific societies.
