Comolli: Juventus Attracts Players Even Without Champions League; Vlahovic News Delayed
Damien Comolli, General Manager of Juventus, has asserted that players are eager to join the Turin club, even if Champions League football is not guaranteed for the upcoming season. He also cautioned that any news regarding Dusan Vlahovic's future should not be anticipated before the current season concludes.
Juventus recently moved into fourth place in Serie A following a 1-0 victory over Atalanta and Como's 4-3 loss to Inter. With only six games remaining, securing this position is crucial for qualification into the financially beneficial Champions League.
Comolli Confident in Juventus' Ambitious Transfer Plans
Comolli expressed confidence in the club's transfer strategy, stating it will remain ambitious regardless of European competition status. "I think our transfer strategy will be ambitious regardless," he stated. "I don’t know where we’ll end up, there is talk of fourth place, but it could even be better than that. The Serie A table is tight and we are very ambitious going into the final matches."
Juventus is currently three points behind third-placed Milan and six points adrift of second-placed Napoli. Defensively, they have a two-point cushion over fifth-placed Como and a three-point lead over sixth-placed Roma.
"What we do know is that Juventus are negotiating with many players, and the players we are talking to are not saying ‘I am only interested in Juventus if they qualify for the Champions League.’ These are players eager to come to Juventus without knowing if we are in the Champions League or not," Comolli explained. "Obviously, on a financial level it is much better to be in the Champions League than the Europa League. However, in terms of ambition, it doesn’t matter which European competition we are in next season, we will still build an ambitious team to have success in the future."
Vlahovic Contract Talks Expected After Season Ends
Regarding Dusan Vlahovic, whose current contract expires on June 30, Comolli reiterated his previous stance. "I will stick to what I’ve said since the start for Dusan, which is that we’ll talk it over at the end of the season, so do not expect anything new before then," Comolli insisted. "There are six weeks to go, I know our director Marco Ottolini had contact with Dusan, but do not expect anything before the end of the season. We hope to have good news on the contract renewals at some point, even before the campaign is over, with regards to other players."
