Chiesa Cleared to Play for Liverpool Against Manchester City After Italy Withdrawal
Federico Chiesa, the Italian winger, will be available for Liverpool's crucial FA Cup quarter-final clash against Manchester City this Saturday, despite his recent withdrawal from the Italy national team during the international break.
Liverpool is set to face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals tomorrow, and Chiesa is expected to be a part of the Reds' squad for the high-stakes encounter.
Liverpool coach Arne Slot confirmed Chiesa's eligibility during a press conference. Slot stated, "Federico indeed came back from the national team, where he wasn’t able to play. But he trained with us today, so he will train with us tomorrow again and will be available for the game on the weekend.”
Chiesa was initially named in Gennaro Gattuso’s 28-man squad for the World Cup play-off but returned to Liverpool before participating in any training sessions with his national teammates.
Reports had previously indicated that Chiesa's decision to leave the national team camp was not solely due to physical concerns, which makes his swift return to club availability less surprising, coming less than two weeks after his departure from the Azzurri squad.
This season, Chiesa has made 32 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool, contributing three goals and three assists. He has not featured for the Italy national team since the 2024 Euros tournament.
