Basel 0-0 Juventus: Juventus' First Summer Friendly Ends in a Draw

July 20, 2026Carlos Mendoza2 мин

Juventus' initial summer friendly of the 2026-27 season resulted in a goalless draw against Basel. The match saw the Bianconeri face former defender Stephan Lichtsteiner, now coaching the Swiss side.

Douglas Luiz, a recent acquisition for Juventus, started the game and was substituted at halftime by Arthur. In the second half, Luiz earned a penalty for Juventus, but it was saved by the Basel goalkeeper.

Coach Luciano Spalletti commented on the performance, stating, "It could have been difficult to create chances, but we managed to do so, and did so well, too. There was a bit of a lack of precision in key moments and two or three occasions where we could have scored, but the opposition goalkeeper was in fine form. I’m pleased with the commitment I’ve seen this week."

Player Jeremie Boga also shared his thoughts: "The team put in a good performance. I feel good personally, and it’s great to get back out there and play again. I think we played a good game, of course we’re not at our best physically yet, but with the ball, we showed some good stuff, and that’s exactly what we want to do this year. We’ll approach each game with the goal of improving our condition."

The game ended 0-0, with Mattia Perin making a crucial penalty save. Both teams had their moments, but neither could find the back of the net.
