Fiorentina has reportedly agreed to sell 50% of Lucas Beltran’s contract to River Plate, following his loan spell at Valencia. However, sources indicate the striker is reluctant to return to South America, preferring to continue his career in Europe.
Beltran, who came through the River Plate academy and made a significant impact there, transferred to Fiorentina for €19.7 million in the summer of 2023.
Beltran’s European Ambitions Clash with River Plate Move

Last season, Beltran was informed he needed to find a new club but expressed a strong desire to remain in European football rather than heading back to South America. This led him to accept a loan move to Valencia, where he contributed three goals and two assists over 30 competitive matches this past season.
Multiple Argentine news outlets are now reporting that Fiorentina and River Plate have reached an understanding for Beltran’s transfer, with the Viola agreeing to sell half of his contract for €6 million and retaining a 50% sell-on clause.
However, TyC Sports highlights a key obstacle: the 25-year-old striker is still focused on establishing himself at a high level in Europe and is currently resisting the move back to River Plate. Club officials are reportedly making efforts to persuade him that a return would be beneficial for his career progression.
