Inter Milan has officially confirmed that head coach Cristian Chivu has signed a new contract, extending his commitment to the club until the summer of 2028. This extension is a recognition of Chivu’s highly successful first full season in charge, during which he guided the Nerazzurri to a remarkable Serie A and Coppa Italia double.
Chivu, who previously played for Inter for seven years and held various youth coaching positions within the club, took the helm after Simone Inzaghi’s departure at the end of the 2024-25 season. His return to Inter marked a triumphant period, culminating in both the Coppa Italia and the Scudetto in the 2025-26 campaign.
The club expressed its delight in a statement, highlighting Chivu’s “unique story defined by passion and sacrifice.” They emphasized his deep connection with the club, having been part of Inter in various capacities throughout his career. His tenure so far has seen him manage 58 matches, leading to a historic double, including Inter’s 21st Scudetto and tenth Coppa Italia.
The statement further praised Chivu’s leadership style, noting his humility and ability to foster a strong team spirit. He was recognized as Serie A Coach of the Season for 2025/26. His achievements extend to rewriting Inter’s history books, becoming the first to win the Scudetto across all three of his “Nerazzurri lives” (player, youth coach, and senior coach) and the only figure to win both Serie A and Coppa Italia in the same season as both player and coach.
Chivu’s extension was previously set to expire in the summer of 2027. This new agreement ensures continuity and stability as the club aims for further success, including challenges in the Champions League and defending their domestic titles.
What Inter Said About Chivu’s Contract Extension
“FC Internazionale Milano is delighted to confirm the contract extension of head coach Cristian Chivu. Thanks to the contract renewal, Coach Chivu will stay in charge of the Nerazzurri until 2028,” read a statement on the club website. The club further elaborated on Chivu’s integral role and the values he brings to the team, stating, “Cristian Chivu’s story is truly unique: it’s a story defined by passion and sacrifice, it’s a tale of memorable and defining moments. It’s a story entrenched in Nerazzurri colours, with the Club there at every stage of the coach’s life…”
The club highlighted Chivu’s exceptional first season, where he not only secured a Serie A and Coppa Italia double but also achieved significant personal milestones. He became the fifth Inter coach to win Serie A in his debut season and the second to win the league with both the first team and the Primavera squad.
