Como Eye Ambitious Deal for Juventus’s Cambiaso as More Italians Required for Europe

Como is reportedly targeting a summer transfer for Juventus player Andrea Cambiaso. This move is driven by Cesc Fabregas’s side needing more Italian players to comply with UEFA’s squad list regulations for European competitions.

Como has secured a place in European football for the 2026-27 season, guaranteed to finish no lower than sixth in Serie A. The specific competition (Champions League, Europa League, or Conference League) is yet to be determined.

Ahead of their debut in European tournaments, Como will need to acquire additional Italian homegrown players to meet UEFA’s squad composition rules. UEFA regulations allow for a squad of up to 25 players on the ‘A’ list, with at least eight of them requiring local training.

Currently, Como has a limited number of Italian players in their squad. Edoardo Goldaniga, a 32-year-old, is their most featured homegrown talent but has only played 104 minutes this season.

Como’s President, Mirwan Suwarso, has openly stated the club’s desire to strengthen their Italian contingent. He mentioned in a recent interview, “We are always looking for more Italians. We bought four in our first Serie A season.” He also noted the high cost of Italian players and the inability to pay in installments. Suwarso highlighted several Italian talents he admires, including Orsolini, Bastoni, Dimarco, Venturino, Cambiaghi, and Lazio’s Pellegrini, but indicated affordability issues.

Could Como Sign Cambiaso from Juventus?

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Como is interested in signing Cambiaso from Juventus. However, securing this transfer is expected to be challenging.

Como values Cambiaso’s versatility, as he can play as a full-back or wing-back on either side. They also see him as an experienced option in both Serie A and the Champions League, despite his age of 26.

Despite Como’s interest, Cambiaso is a regular starter for Juventus under coach Luciano Spalletti, who, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, has no plans to sell him. Como hopes that the club’s management may have a different perspective.

Juventus is anticipated to have a busy summer transfer window to build a squad capable of challenging for the 2026-27 Scudetto. This could necessitate player sales to fund new signings.

La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that, apart from perhaps Kenan Yildiz, most Juventus players are available for transfer if a suitable offer is received. A sale of Cambiaso would be more likely if Juventus fails to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Cambiaso is not the only Italian player on Como’s radar. Reports indicate that Cambiaghi is also a target, with a potential fee around €15 million. For Cambiaso, however, Como would likely need to offer significantly more, potentially double that amount.
