Capello: Bernardo Silva Could Mirror Pirlo’s Juventus Impact

Fabio Capello has offered his advice to Juventus and Milan regarding potential acquisitions for the 2026-27 season. He suggests that Bernardo Silva, from Manchester City, could replicate the influence Andrea Pirlo had at Juventus. Additionally, Capello believes Kim Min-jae would be a valuable addition to either club.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the renowned coach, who has a history of winning titles with both Turin and Milan clubs, shared his perspective as Juventus and Milan prepare for a crucial match in the battle for a top-four finish.

Capello’s High Praise for Bernardo Silva

Capello expressed his belief that Juventus is better positioned to compete for the Scudetto next season. He noted that Luciano Spalletti has a squad with players in their prime and that the club’s clear vision is evident in the contract extensions for key personnel like the coach, Kenan Yildiz, Weston McKennie, and Manuel Locatelli. These extensions, he feels, provide stability and mitigate transfer speculation.

In contrast, Capello observed uncertainty at AC Milan under Max Allegri, with questions surrounding the futures of several players and the coach himself, including potential departures of figures like Rafael Leao and even Luka Modric. Capello questioned Modric’s ability to maintain his current level of performance at the age of 41 if he were to extend his stay.

Capello provided specific recommendations for both clubs. He is particularly impressed with Bernardo Silva, whose Manchester City contract is set to expire. Capello stated, “I’ve always said you don’t need five or six new signings, just two or three that are of a high level. I’d go for Bernardo Silva at Juventus, because he is always in the right place at the right time, and at age 31 can still make the difference in Serie A.” He elaborated that Silva’s arrival at Juventus could have a similar transformative effect as Andrea Pirlo’s did during Antonio Conte’s tenure.

Bernardo Silva is expected to become a free agent at the end of the season, with confirmation that he will not extend his contract with Manchester City beyond June 30. Juventus is considered a strong contender to sign the Portuguese international.

Regarding defensive reinforcements, Capello suggested the same player for both clubs: Kim Min-jae from Bayern Munich. “Kim from Bayern would work really well alongside Bremer at Juve, while I’d see him fit at Milan too,” Capello commented.

For AC Milan, the focus is on finding a centre-forward who complements Allegri’s tactical approach. Capello weighed in on potential targets such as Dusan Vlahovic and Robert Lewandowski. “I’d be wary of Lewandowski, because you don’t lose your nose for goal at age 37-38, but you do lose power and the ability to track back. Vlahovic has less technique, but more prospects going forward. With Lewandowski, you win,” Capello stated. He believes Vlahovic would be an ideal centre-forward for Allegri and also sees Leon Goretzka as a potential midfield addition, depending on market affordability.
