Multiple reports indicate that Massimiliano Allegri is set to be dismissed by AC Milan today, following the team’s failure to secure Champions League qualification on the final matchday of the season.
Sources from Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia, Sport Mediaset, and MilanNews are confident that club owner Gerry Cardinale has made the decision.
Allegri is expected to be informed of his sacking later today, with a formal announcement to follow shortly thereafter.
Milan Closes the Door on Allegri’s Tenure
Allegri, who began his second spell at the club last summer after his previous tenure from 2010 to January 2014, had been a contender for the Scudetto for many months.
However, the team’s performance significantly declined in the latter stages of the season, particularly after their victory in the Derby della Madonnina against rivals and then-leaders Inter Milan on March 8th.
Following that crucial win, Milan only managed three more victories, a goalless draw against Juventus, and suffered six defeats.
Throughout his 42 competitive matches this season, Allegri’s record stood at 22 wins, 10 draws, and 10 losses.
His departure is anticipated to be part of a broader restructuring of the club’s management, with only Gerry Cardinale and special advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic expected to remain.
Club President Paolo Scaroni is likely to stay on, with his responsibilities primarily focused on the new stadium project.
CEO Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and chief scout Geoffrey Moncada are all reportedly expected to leave the club this summer.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Cardinale and Ibrahimovic are in pursuit of a coach described as a ‘Cesc Fabregas type’ – someone more attacking and proactive in their approach.
Regarding Allegri, he has been strongly linked with the Napoli managerial position, even prior to AC Milan’s recent downturn in form.
