Alessandro Del Piero, the esteemed Italian football legend, believes that the Champions League semi-final showdown between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich possesses the intensity and quality befitting a final. He highlighted the remarkable balance and calibre of both squads.
Speaking prior to the initial leg, Del Piero, a former star for Juventus and the Italian national team, emphasized the tactical parity between the two clubs. However, he suggested that PSG might possess a marginal advantage due to their adaptability and swift transitions in play.
“These are two teams that exhibit many similarities in their playing styles, but in my opinion, PSG brings something a little extra,” Del Piero commented. “Luis Enrique has adapted well, enhancing their defensive organization and effectively utilizing counter-attacks. I haven’t observed Bayern playing with the same level of explosiveness.”
Del Piero also drew attention to the contrasting attacking profiles. He noted that Bayern relies on Harry Kane as both a central figure and a primary finisher, whereas PSG boasts greater speed across their entire forward line.
“Upfront, there’s Kane, who can both orchestrate and conclude moves, while the French side possesses pure speed throughout their attack,” he stated. “Bayern might be more potent from set-pieces, but fundamentally, these are two teams without significant weaknesses. It would have been wonderful to see them compete in the final.”
Despite the abundance of attacking talent on display, Del Piero cautioned that the match could also be characterized by a high degree of caution and tension.
“I’m not even sure what to anticipate,” he admitted. “They are so strong that the game could open up at any moment, or it could even end in a goalless draw due to the tension and how effectively they neutralize each other.”
