Chinese tennis player Zheng Qinwen, currently ranked ninth in the world, has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan and the WTA 500 event in Ningbo.
The Wuhan competition is scheduled for the week starting October 6, while the Ningbo tournament will begin a week later, on October 13.
As a result of this decision, Zheng will lose 650 ranking points earned from reaching last year`s Wuhan final, which will cause her to drop out of the WTA top 10. Following elbow surgery in July, the athlete has only participated in one tournament, in Beijing, where she was forced to retire during her third-round match.
