WTA Expects to Win Court Case Against Tsurenko

The WTA is confident in its victory in the legal case against former world No. 23 Lesia Tsurenko.

The WTA stated: `The WTA has made it clear that all athletes are equal, and our tournaments are open to everyone, regardless of nationality. Like other tennis organizations, we believe that players should not be held responsible for the actions of their countries.

We sympathize with Lesia Tsurenko and other Ukrainian tennis players who have faced serious difficulties, but we are disappointed by her decision to file a lawsuit to hold us accountable for her suffering. We have always acted in accordance with the rules and are confident that we will win this case,` the WTA said in a comment to The Athletic.

It is recalled that in 2023, Tsurenko withdrew from a match against Aryna Sabalenka at Indian Wells, citing a panic attack. Earlier, she was `shocked` by a conversation with the then WTA head Steve Simon. Discussing the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the Tour, Simon, according to her, expressed confidence in their return to the Olympics, stressing that this does not violate the principles of fair play and Olympic values, but rather corresponds to them.
