Who will be the best Serie A scorer in 2025-26?

With the 2025-26 Serie A season still fiercely contested, from the Scudetto chase to the battle against relegation, numerous players are vying for the coveted Capocannoniere title.

After 30 rounds, Inter’s key forward, Lautaro Martinez, currently leads the Serie A scoring charts with 14 goals.

While Lautaro Martinez is widely considered the frontrunner for this season’s top scorer award, Serie A is renowned for its unpredictable nature, suggesting potential shifts in the standings during the remaining fixtures.

Surprisingly, Como’s Anastasios Douvikas holds a strong second position with 11 goals. Similarly, Udinese’s Keinan Davis, currently third, has exceeded expectations by being so high in the rankings at this point in the season.

Davis, a former Aston Villa striker who moved to Udinese for a mere €3 million in 2023, has scored 10 goals, matching the tallies of Rasmus Hojlund (Napoli), Kenan Yildiz (Juventus), and Nico Paz (Como).

Hojlund made his return to Serie A last summer from Manchester United, having previously played a season with Atalanta. Although technically on loan from the Red Devils, Napoli has already committed to making his transfer permanent.

Napoli director Giovanni Manna confirmed the club’s determination to sign Hojlund, stating in December that his desire to join was crucial despite interest from other prominent clubs. Manna highlighted Hojlund’s decisive impact, both statistically and in executing the coach’s strategies. He explained that a permanent purchase option exists, which becomes an obligation if Napoli qualifies for the Champions League, emphasizing that both the player and the club view him as a permanent Napoli fixture.

Manna further clarified that Hojlund’s permanent transfer to the Stadio Maradona is essentially a “formality,” ensuring the Danish international will represent the Azzurri throughout the 2026-27 season.

Among Italian forwards, Gianluca Scamacca of Atalanta and Moise Kean of Fiorentina stand out as the top scorers after 30 rounds. Kean was the second-highest scorer in Serie A last season, trailing only Mateo Retegui, who has since departed Italy’s top division for a lucrative move to Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah.

With eight matches still to play, the Serie A Capocannoniere race is far from decided. Despite a current injury layoff, Lautaro Martinez remains the favorite to clinch the award. The Argentine forward, a 2022 World Cup champion, previously secured the Serie A top scorer title in the 2023-24 season, scoring 24 goals and playing a crucial role in Inter’s historic 20th domestic championship.
