Honored coach of Russia, Viktor Yanchuk, commented on Daniil Medvedev’s defeat to Jaume Munar in the second round of the Miami Masters tournament with a score of 2-6, 3-6.
Yanchuk noted that Medvedev’s loss to Munar was not a surprise. According to him, there was no confidence in Daniil’s optimal form, as his previous performances had not been very successful. These concerns, unfortunately, were confirmed. Despite it being the beginning of the season, Medvedev needs to recover, as Roland Garros is an important and motivating competition. Yanchuk also expressed hope for young players and that Andrey Rublev will continue to show good results, especially after winning the tournament in Doha.
Yanchuk believes that Medvedev can still play at a good level for another three to four years. Although it is not about winning Grand Slam tournaments, he is quite capable of winning Masters and other tournaments. Yanchuk emphasized that a decline in a career is a natural process, and all athletes sooner or later face a deterioration in results. However, he noted the example of Grigor Dimitrov, who, being older than Medvedev, continues to perform successfully. Yanchuk concluded that an athlete should play and fight as long as there is an opportunity.
