The TGL playoffs match between The Bay Golf Club and Atlanta Drive Golf Club took place on Tuesday night.
The Bay GC, seeded No. 2, had previously lost their top seed after a defeat to Los Angeles Golf Club on March 3. Atlanta Drive GC, the No. 3 seed, had only lost once this season, against The Bay on February 17.
Playing for The Bay were Min Woo Lee, Ludvig Åberg, and Shane Lowry, with Wyndham Clark inactive. Atlanta’s team consisted of Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, and Patrick Cantlay, while Lucas Glover was inactive.
Atlanta secured a 9-3 victory over The Bay and will now compete against New York GC in the finals, a best-of-three series scheduled for March 24 and 25.
Here are some key moments from Tuesday’s TGL playoff match.
Lee’s 190 mph Drive
The league’s leading driver in distance and speed continued his strong performance. Lee’s first drive of the night traveled 328 yards with a peak speed of 190 mph.
Star-Studded Playoff Audience
The TGL semifinals match attracted numerous celebrities, including former NFL quarterback Michael Vick, former Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones, golfer Rory McIlroy, and Atlanta Falcons players Michael Penix Jr. and Kyle Pitts.
Lowry’s Near Bunker Shot
Lowry almost saved a point for The Bay on Hole 8 with an impressive 40-foot bunker chip shot for par. The ball was on target but narrowly missed the hole to the right.
Thomas’s Lucky Bounce on Hole 10
Thomas benefited from luck on his second shot on Hole 10. The ball, heading out of bounds, bounced back into play off a restricted area. Rory McIlroy, observing, called it ‘the luckiest bounce’ he had ever witnessed on air.
Cantlay Seals Victory with Near Hole-in-One
Facing elimination, The Bay used their last ‘hammer’ on Hole 12 to double the points. However, Cantlay responded with a shot that nearly resulted in a hole-in-one.
The ball stopped just under four feet from the hole. Atlanta then used their final ‘hammer’ to triple the hole’s points. Cantlay then made the putt, securing the win for Atlanta.
