The idea of Stephen Curry, widely recognized as the greatest three-point shooter of all time, never playing in the NBA might seem inconceivable. Yet, according to his wife, Ayesha, this was a distinct possibility. Instead of gracing professional courts, he might have been found on the sidelines, coaching high school basketball.
Ayesha shared this revelation on the `Call Her Daddy` podcast, admitting that she initially didn`t anticipate Stephen`s eventual rise to NBA stardom. “I didn`t know that he was going to end up playing basketball. He said he wanted to be a high school basketball coach,” she stated.
During the podcast, Ayesha, 36, also opened up about the challenges of their relationship evolving under the glare of public attention. She confessed to having “hated” the spotlight during the initial phases of their journey together.
The couple first met in 2003 and began dating in 2009, eventually marrying in July 2011. This was four years before the Golden State Warriors clinched their first NBA championship with Stephen in 2015. They are now parents to four children.
Ayesha also recalled advising Stephen to complete his college education rather than entering the 2009 NBA draft, where the Warriors ultimately selected him as the seventh pick. Despite her initial counsel, she expressed relief and pride that he chose to declare for the draft.
“He ended up finishing anyway and has gone on to do tremendous, incredible, cool s— that we never thought would happen, so it`s great,” Ayesha commented, reflecting on his extraordinary career.
In the 2024-25 regular season, Stephen Curry continued to demonstrate his prowess, averaging 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6 assists for the Warriors, earning a spot on the All-NBA second team.
