The President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF), Shamil Tarpishchev, commented on the recent victory of Russian tennis player Anastasia Tikhonova, who competed in doubles with Ukrainian Valeria Strakhova, at the W100 tournament in Edmond, USA.
Tarpishchev emphasized the significance of such joint performances, especially in the current global context. He stated:
“A victory in a tournament by Ukrainian Strakhova partnered with Russian Tikhonova is always important. In tennis, despite frequent negative press, we haven`t seen any players refuse to compete with us, regardless of their nationality or country of origin. I am convinced that such strong relationships within the Tikhonova and Strakhova pairing were formed because they started playing together in childhood. These personal connections last a lifetime and remain unchanged.”
In the final of the Edmond tournament`s doubles event, the duo of Tikhonova and Strakhova triumphed over the Australian-Polish pair Olivia Gadecki and Olivia Lincer with a score of 6-3, 6-7(2), [10-8] in a championship tie-break.
