World No. 8 Andrey Rublev commented on the fact that several highly-ranked players have been eliminated from the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid.
Notably, Carlos Alcaraz withdrew before the second round due to injury, while Novak Djokovic was defeated by Matteo Arnaldi at the same stage. Rublev himself was unable to defend his title, losing to Alexander Bublik.
Speaking at a press conference, the Russian player was asked if the unexpected results meant there would be an unusual champion at this `Masterse`. Rublev responded:
“We`ll see. There are still many strong players left, many good names. It`s too early to say anything yet.”
