Roland Garros Qualifying: Bejlek’s Dramatic Win and Other Wednesday Results

On Wednesday, May 21, several women`s singles qualification semifinal matches were contested at Roland Garros.

Key results from the day include:

  • Varvara Lepchenko (USA, 16) defeated Jana Fett (Croatia) — 1/6, 6/4, 6/3
  • Kristina Dmitruk (Belarus) defeated Maddison Inglis (Australia) — 7/5, 6/3
  • Rebeka Masarova (Switzerland, 10) defeated Carson Branstine (Canada) — 6/0, 6/3
  • Nina Stojanovic (Serbia) defeated Margo Rouvroy (France) — 3/6, 7/5, 7/5
  • Sara Bejlek (Czech Republic) defeated Ena Shibahara (Japan, 31) — 7/5, 2/6, 7/6(12:10)

Sara Bejlek`s victory over Ena Shibahara was particularly dramatic. In their nearly three-hour encounter, Bejlek saved two match points when Shibahara was serving for the match, and a total of three match points overall, before clinching the win in a thrilling final set tie-break.

Please note that due to rain, the majority of other matches scheduled for Wednesday were postponed and will be played on Thursday.
