Rick Macci, the renowned former coach of tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams, recently offered his perspective on how world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz could further elevate his already impressive game.
“Believe it or not, I think if they want to — and only if they don`t consult with some sports science guru — they should definitely experiment with a platform stance on his serve. I truly believe that`s how he can reach the next level,” Macci stated. “While he possesses immense firepower and can hit the ball incredibly hard, he does accumulate a few too many double faults. But that`s understandable, he`s a courageous player. However, his first serve percentage, in my view, is simply too low.”
“It has absolutely nothing to do with his height. He`s not going to grow any taller, so what you see is what you get. I would simply love to suggest: `Hey, give this a try. Implement all these corrective techniques and discover what truly works for you.`”
“The finest athletes in any discipline continually make adjustments — particularly in tennis, where technique plays such a crucial role. And the serve, when its scientific principles are understood, is one of the simplest elements to modify, precisely because it isn`t performed while moving,” Macci concluded in his interview with Tennis365.
