World No. 9 Mirra Andreeva provided an update on her health status and reflected on her straight-sets victory (6/4, 6/2) against Alexandra Eala at the exhibition tournament in Macau.
The Russian player had been forced to withdraw from the captain’s challenge and the mixed doubles match the day before due to illness.
Improved Health and Victory
Speaking after her win over Eala, Andreeva confirmed she was feeling much better, thanking her opponent for making the match manageable.
“Of course, I feel better than yesterday,” Andreeva joked during her on-court interview. “I must thank Alex for showing me some leniency, because honestly, I don`t think I would have had a chance otherwise. It was a tough match, but my physical condition is definitely much improved compared to yesterday.”
Preparation for Australia
Andreeva also emphasized the significance of these exhibition events as essential preparation leading into the first Grand Slam of the season.
“Tournaments like these are excellent preparation for Australia. At the same time, it’s also important to enjoy yourself on the court, and I believe both Alex and I had a great time,” she continued.
The young star observed that Eala’s playing style initially posed a unique challenge.
“In the beginning, she was playing softly, and I actually found it harder when she simply placed the ball into the court instead of hitting powerfully. It turned out to be a quality match, and thank you to all the fans who came out to watch,” Andreeva concluded.
