Rafael Nadal Awarded Honorary Doctorate by University of Salamanca

Tennis icon and 22-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal, has been officially bestowed with an honorary doctorate from the prestigious University of Salamanca.

Established in 1218, the University of Salamanca is recognized as one of Europe`s oldest and most esteemed academic institutions. The honorary doctorate is a distinguished title granted to individuals who have made exceptional contributions across various fields, including science, art, sports, and public service. Notably, Nadal marks a historical moment as the very first athlete in the university`s more than 800-year history to receive such a high honor.

Interestingly, despite the widespread recognition of his achievements, it was noted that 34% of the voters expressed opposition to his candidacy for the honorary title.
