Piastri Leads Friday Practice in Japan, Remains Realistic About Mercedes’ Edge

Oscar Piastri has enjoyed a promising start to the Japanese Grand Prix weekend. After two consecutive retirements in the previous races in Australia and China, the McLaren driver shone on the first day of practice, setting the fastest time and outperforming both Mercedes cars in single-lap simulations.

Despite this strong performance, Piastri maintains a cautious and realistic approach. He acknowledges that Friday’s results are provisional and that Mercedes’ superior race pace remains a significant factor.
