In the opening round of LIV Golf Dallas at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas, Patrick Reed and Harold Varner III finished tied for the lead after both shooting a 5-under 67 on Friday.
Reed`s round featured an eagle on the par-5 second hole, along with four birdies and a single bogey. Varner, who is Reed`s teammate on the 4Aces squad, recorded six birdies but finished with a bogey.
Brooks Koepka withdrew from the tournament during the round due to illness. Earlier, he was seen striking a tee marker with his driver on the ninth hole.
One shot behind the co-leaders is Jon Rahm. Abraham Ancer is two strokes back after a 69, while a group including Dustin Johnson, Graeme McDowell, Anirban Lahiri, Richard Bland, and David Puig are three shots off the pace at 70.
Local favorite Bryson DeChambeau, who resides in Dallas and played collegiately at SMU, began his tournament with an even-par 72.
Joaquin Niemann, the current points leader and recent winner at LIV Golf Virginia, struggled in the first round, posting a 78, which included a challenging score of 10 on the par-5 seventh hole.
