Famous coach Patrick Mouratoglou shared his expectations for Jannik Sinner`s return after a three-month absence.
“The good news for Jannik is that no one has taken his place during his absence. Novak Djokovic reached the final in Miami but didn`t win, and Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev didn`t show their best results. If Alcaraz had won Indian Wells and Miami, which is possible for him, he would have approached Sinner`s return with more confidence.”
“We saw what Sinner had to face and how many victories he achieved despite that. He has a first-class mentality: he was the strongest three months ago and will be the strongest upon his return. During this period, others had a chance not only to score points but also to win tournaments and gain confidence to confront him more decisively. However, they didn`t succeed in doing anything,” Mouratoglou is quoted by Corriere dello Sport.
The specialist was also asked about the Top players` collective demand to increase prize money at the Grand Slams.
“A solution needs to be found because, for me, it`s not normal – considering the money circulating in this business – that only the top 100 players really earn from tennis. For me, this is one of the main problems. Previously, no one tried to do anything for them. I believe that for the future of tennis, it is very important to ask and ensure that such athletes receive more.”
