Paolini Ends 39-Year Wait for Italian Woman’s Rome Title

Italian world No. 5 Jasmine Paolini has triumphed at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. Paolini`s victory makes her the first Italian woman to win the event held in her home country`s capital since 1985.

The last Italian woman to lift the trophy in 1985 was Raffaella Reggi.

In the WTA 1000 final, Paolini defeated American Coco Gauff in straight sets with a score of 6/4, 6/2.

This title in Rome is Paolini`s first of the current season and the third of her career overall. Following this result, she is projected to rise to a career-high ranking of world No. 4 in the updated WTA rankings.

Notably, Paolini also has the opportunity to secure a second title at the Rome tournament in the doubles competition. She and her compatriot Sara Errani are scheduled to face Russia`s Veronika Kudermetova and Belgium`s Elise Mertens in the doubles final.
