Mirra Andreeva Shares Reason for Miami Award Ceremony Rush

World No. 7 Mirra Andreeva shared insights into the hasty award ceremony following her victory in the WTA 1000 Miami Open doubles final. According to Andreeva, she and her partner Diana Shnaider were asked by organizers to speed up the proceedings due to a delay concerning Novak Djokovic`s singles final, which was reportedly causing him dissatisfaction.

Recounting the event in an interview with BB Tennis, Andreeva said, “At all the tournaments I`ve seen, everyone was allowed to give some kind of speech, even a small one.” She explained the particular circumstances in Miami: “We had an incident there: it rained all day, we were supposed to play at 12 PM, but ended up starting at seven or eight in the evening.”

Andreeva continued, “And after the match, they told us, like, let`s hurry up a bit because Novak Djokovic is already angry that he can`t get on the court, finally. So we said something quickly there and left.”
