Mirra Andreeva Discusses Surface Preferences and Line Calling Technology

World No. 7 Mirra Andreeva recently shared her thoughts on her performance across different tennis surfaces and also commented on the topic of line-calling systems.

Asked about her ability to play well on all surfaces, including grass which often poses early career challenges, and how she would rank them by preference, Andreeva stated:

“Given how I played on grass last year, for now it will be last place for me. Maybe something will change this year, and then I will change the list. If we are talking about this year, hard court is in first place, then clay, and grass at the end.”

When questioned if clay might have ranked higher in previous years, she replied:

“Perhaps. Let`s see how these clay tournaments go. Maybe I will put clay back in first place.”

On the subject of electronic video review systems on clay and whether she likes them or thinks they should be implemented at Roland Garros, Andreeva commented:

“I heard that line judges will be used at Roland Garros this year. I don`t know. What I like about the electronic system is that you cannot argue with it; you simply accept its decision. It is easier for me not to pay attention to whether the decision was correct or not. Of course, on clay it is a little different. I am not particularly fussy about it. If they use line judges, then fine, I will play with judges. If they use the electronic system, I will play with that.”
