McLaren team principal Andrea Stella emphasized the necessity of a thorough, analytical review of the collision between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri during the Singapore Grand Prix. This investigation is crucial to maintain the drivers` confidence and trust in the team.
Oscar Piastri, currently leading the championship, expressed strong dissatisfaction after his teammate and closest rival, Lando Norris, made contact with his car during a first-lap maneuver. This incident, involving both McLaren vehicles, narrowed their championship points difference to 22 with just six races left in the season.
Race stewards chose not to intervene, and McLaren declined Piastri`s on-track request for disciplinary action against Norris. The team`s justification was that the contact stemmed from Norris`s reaction to an earlier brush with Max Verstappen`s Red Bull car.
Piastri vehemently protested McLaren`s decision over team radio, labeling it “not fair.” Although he appeared calmer in post-race interviews, many, including pundit Jamie Chadwick, suggested that the incident signifies an intensified, no-holds-barred approach to the championship fight.
“Our review must be exceptionally thorough and analytical,” stated McLaren team principal Stella. His comments came as the team celebrated securing their second consecutive Constructors` Championship in Singapore.
