Emma Raducanu`s coach, Mark Petchey, offered his perspective on Jannik Sinner`s loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final. The match saw Alcaraz triumph with a scoreline of 6/4, 7/6(4), 4/6, 6/7(3), 6/7(2:10).
Petchey suggested that Sinner`s recent three-month break from competitive play significantly impacted his performance in the crucial match. “In my opinion, many people felt that three months away from the game wasn`t a harsh enough penalty for him,” Petchey commented, implying the absence was a form of punishment, “But now he has paid the price.”
He elaborated, stating, “In recent months, he wasn`t able to play many big matches. And, in my view, the emotional strain—although he did manage to turn the fifth set around by getting back into the game—was the deciding factor against an opponent like Carlos Alcaraz. I believe he still paid a significant price by not adding a third consecutive Grand Slam title to his record,” Petchey concluded during his appearance on TNT Sports.
