Max Verstappen expressed his strong disapproval of Lando Norris, asserting that Norris prevented him from contending for pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix, and cautioned that the incident “will be remembered.”
With Norris and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri unexpectedly out of contention for pole at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Verstappen was attempting to unseat Mercedes` George Russell from the top spot during the closing stages of the session when he came up behind the Briton in the final sector.
Verstappen was of the opinion that Norris, who was already on his way back to the pits after completing his final flying lap, should have made a greater effort to provide a clear path for the Red Bull. The Dutchman was convinced that the turbulent air generated by the McLaren caused him to make a critical error at the final chicane.
Immediately following Verstappen`s lap, his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, radioed the reigning champion, stating: “You can thank your mate for that. Hard luck.”
Verstappen responded with an expletive, then proceeded to explain his account of the incident during his post-qualifying interview.
