The 2025 ESPYS Awards ceremony, sponsored by Capital One, is scheduled for July 16. Fans have the opportunity to cast their votes to help determine which prominent athletes will receive the top accolades at the event.
Fresh from winning the NBA championship, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a nominee hoping to add more awards to his recent collection, which includes regular-season MVP and Finals MVP titles. The Oklahoma City Thunder guard is nominated in two categories: Best Athlete – Men`s Sports and Best NBA Player. His team, the Thunder, is also nominated for Best Team, being one of nine teams recognized after their Game 7 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
Several athletes have been nominated for ESPYS awards in recognition of their exceptional performances at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. Among them, Simone Biles and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone are nominated for Best Athlete – Women`s Sports. Ilona Maher is nominated for Best Breakthrough Athlete, and Ezra Frech for Best Athlete with a Disability.
A`ja Wilson, who won both Best Athlete – Women`s Sports and Best WNBA Player awards in 2024, is again a leading nominee in these same categories. Saquon Barkley received nominations in three categories: Best Athlete – Men`s Sports, Best Play, and Best NFL Player. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the only other NFL player, besides Barkley, to be nominated in both the Best NFL Player and Best Athlete – Men`s Sports categories.
