World No. 27 Karen Khachanov addressed the brief on-court exchange he had with Spain`s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina during their Barcelona ATP 500 quarterfinal, which Khachanov won 6-4, 7-5. The players were seen having an animated discussion at the net immediately after the match.
Khachanov explained the situation in a post-match interview: “Sometimes in the heat of competition, players can get a little emotional – nerves and tension can lead to minor exchanges. We had a brief moment a few games before the end. However, I always play fairly and respect my opponent. We talked everything over at the net after the match, shook hands like men, and that was the end of it. I have no issues with him now; it`s all behind us.”
