João Fonseca, currently ranked 57th in the world, shared his thoughts on watching the final match of the French Open 2025, which featured Carlos Alcaraz from Spain and Jannik Sinner from Italy.
“I derive great pleasure from watching them play. I saw the final, and it was tennis at the highest level. The way these two play is very beneficial for tennis as a whole. I`m curious to observe how they perform during matches and how they handle pressure in key moments. I discussed this with my family: watching is more complex for us because we notice different aspects than regular fans do. Usually, spectators focus on their behavior during rallies – their attitude, whether positive or negative. These moments aren`t as noticeable when you`re playing against them on court. But from the television screen, you can discern many more details. It`s a valuable experience. Last week, I talked about this with my coach. To reiterate, these athletes are a real asset to our sport. I sincerely hope that sometime in the future I`ll have the opportunity to play against them,” Fonseca stated in an interview published on the Tennis TV X account.
At the French Open 2025, the 18-year-old João Fonseca reached the third round, where he was defeated by British player Jack Draper with a score of 2/6, 4/6, 2/6.
