American tennis star Jessica Pegula commented on her hard-fought victory against British opponent Emma Raducanu in the third round of the WTA-1000 tournament in Beijing. Pegula emerged victorious in a dramatic three-set encounter, winning 3/6, 7/6(9), 6/0, showcasing incredible resilience by saving three match points during the second-set tie-break.
“It was an incredibly intense and crazy match,” Pegula admitted. “After I managed to come back in the tie-break, my goal was to keep the pressure on her. When Emma committed a double fault at 5-4 in the second set, I felt like I was playing my best tennis, and victory was within reach.”
She further elaborated, “Honestly, I had a bit of luck with two backhand winners that I hit while saving those match points. But I simply fought with all my might, trying to stay in the game for as long as possible.”
Pegula is now set to compete for a spot in the quarterfinals of the Beijing tournament, where she will face Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk.
