Jenson Brooksby on Houston Triumph and Top 200 Comeback: Goals Evolving Rapidly

American tennis player Jenson Brooksby, currently ranked 172nd in the world, shared his excitement after winning the ATP 250 tournament in Houston.

“This victory means a lot to me. Winning my first title has been a major goal since I turned professional. It truly is significant, and this has probably been the best week of my life.”

Question: You fought off match points in three matches this week. Where do you find your fighting spirit?

“I`ve faced many challenges in my life, both on and off the court. So, while I still get nervous in those situations, dealing with other life difficulties gives you a different perspective.”

“Also, I simply hate losing and love winning, especially in tennis, but in other games too. I think it’s just my personality. I adore winning, and that helps me when I`m in tough situations where I seemingly should lose. Sometimes, I manage to find a way out.”

Question: You were unranked but quickly climbed into the Top 175. What were your goals at the start of the year, and how will they change?

“I knew that by the end of the season, I could at least repeat my previous result (reaching world No. 33) if I played the whole year without injuries. My primary goal for this year, regardless of results, was to stay healthy all season and avoid withdrawing from tournaments, as happened in my first two years on the Tour. That`s my priority, but yes, my goals will change significantly because I didn`t expect everything to happen so quickly, which is fantastic.”

“Hopefully, this means I will be playing in many major tournaments again and surpass my previous ranking,” Brooksby stated, as reported by the ATP website.
