World No. 2, Jannik Sinner, recently discussed the profound impact that a three-month absence due to a doping suspension at the beginning of the season had on his physical conditioning as the competitive year draws to a close.

Interview Insights:

Question: “You missed three months at the start of the year. How has this affected your current season? Having played less than usual, do you feel fresher compared to previous years?”

Jannik Sinner: “It`s certainly not easy. In my opinion, last year, we also managed the season`s schedule effectively. I had a strong finish to the year primarily because I opted to skip certain tournaments.”

“I can`t definitively label this choice as right or wrong; one never truly knows for sure. I`m constantly striving to understand my own body, although at 23-24 years old, it`s quite challenging because you`re still young and haven`t fully grasped what`s ultimately best for you. Thus, having the best possible support team around you during such times is absolutely crucial.”

“Regarding those three months… it`s generally much easier to come to terms with such a break when you`re sidelined due to an injury. This year, the situation was distinct, and it wasn`t straightforward. However, I purposefully utilized that time for intensive work. We trained extensively, and I genuinely feel that I`m making physical gains with each passing session.”

“Nonetheless, last year, I also approached the end of the season feeling fresh, thanks to strategic decisions made earlier on. That`s essentially the whole story,” Sinner concluded at a press conference following the tournament in Beijing.
