World No. 1 Jannik Sinner shared his thoughts after his victory over Francisco Cerúndolo in the fourth round of the Rome Masters, where he won 7/6(2), 6/3.
“Cerúndolo is a very strong opponent, and this match was a real test for me, especially now as I adapt to many challenging situations on court,” Sinner commented. “In the first set, I secured a break, but after he broke back, I focused on staying composed and competing for every single point. When I was ahead (like 5-1), I knew I had to remain vigilant because matches can turn around quickly. I`m very satisfied; I feel I am progressing. I played better today than in my previous matches, which is encouraging. It was a long day, and the crowd`s support was incredibly helpful.”
How do you feel physically?
“I`ll assess that once I`ve had time to recover from the match,” Sinner stated. “It will be a busy evening with much needed for recovery. However, I`m genuinely happy to be back after being out for three months. I feel incredibly fortunate to be competing here. From this point, we`ll just have to see what happens,” he added during the press conference.
