Jannik Sinner Explains Day and Evening Session Differences

World No. 1 and three-time Grand Slam champion Jannik Sinner of Italy shared his thoughts on the differences between playing matches during the morning and evening sessions at ATP tournaments.

“I don`t know if I prefer playing during the day or in the evening,” Sinner stated. “It depends on who I`m playing against. In the evening, the ball flies a bit slower, bounces less, and you can hit harder. During the day, you need to use more spin and angles. Each game has its own theme, and considering the first match, I would have preferred the evening (laughs). But this can change every day.”

Earlier today, May 12, Sinner defeated Dutch player Jesper de Jong with a score of 6/4, 6/2 in the third round of the Rome Masters. In the next round, he is set to face Argentinian world No. 18 Francisco Cerundolo.

Jannik also commented on his victory over de Jong.

“Physically, the first match went well,” he said. “I felt pretty good. Of course, matches are a bit different. Today, I started very well, then I had a dip, which usually lasts for about one and a half games. Today it lasted for three and a half games, but that`s normal. This is only the second match I`ve played in three and a half months. That`s a long period. Any chance to play again in the tournament is very positive. The fact that I can play a third match is already very, very positive for me and my progress.”
