German world No. 2 Alexander Zverev recently shared his perspective on speaking publicly during on-court award ceremonies at tournaments, whether after a victory or a defeat.
Zverev explained his candid approach:
“When I have a microphone, I just say what I feel. There`s no script written. I say whatever comes to my mind. Honestly, I don`t really have issues with public speaking. At one point, with the ATP, we did media training, but it didn`t suit me, because often in those courses they tell you what you need to say at the right moments and what you don`t, and what thoughts you need to keep to yourself. I`m like an open book.”
He contrasted his style with that of some peers, noting:
“Many top players are very different when they are in front of the camera compared to when they are alone. They are very, very different. I`m an open book for you guys, which sometimes makes me really hate myself, and in some cases, it`s good. It depends on the situation.”
Zverev was also asked about his emotions when competing at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid.
He expressed his strong affection for the venue:
“I really like it here. I think I`ve said many times, this is my favorite court in the world. I have wonderful sensations here, wonderful feelings, and also wonderful memories. I hope I can create another wonderful memory this year,” Zverev commented during a press conference.
In tournament news, Alexander Zverev successfully advanced to the third round of the Madrid competition, where his next opponent will be Spanish player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
