Iga Swiatek After Early Rome Exit: ‘I Need to Regroup and Change Some Things’

Iga Swiatek of Poland in action during the final of the 2021 Internazionali BNL d'Italia WTA 1000 tournament

World No. 2 Iga Swiatek shared her thoughts following her third-round defeat to Danielle Collins at the Rome tournament, with the match concluding 1-6, 5-7.

This marks the first time since 2021 that the Polish player has failed to reach the Round of 16 at a WTA 1000 event. Furthermore, she hasn`t claimed a title since her victory at Roland Garros last year (2023).

“Of course, it`s not easy,” Swiatek stated. “Clearly, I`m doing something wrong. I need to gather myself and change a few things.”

“My team has provided me with some advice. I simply need to follow it.”

Asked about emotional support during this challenging period, Swiatek responded:

“Well, on Daria [Abramowicz, my psychologist] and all the team members in general. We`ve discussed things and reached certain conclusions. So I plan to alter my mindset a bit because…”

Regarding her expectations for the upcoming Roland Garros, Swiatek commented:

“Obviously, expectations are not high because I`m not capable of displaying my usual level of tennis. As I mentioned, I will just try to shift my mindset slightly, regroup, and concentrate on the work day by day.”

When questioned about other players achieving success at specific Grand Slams despite not being in peak form, citing a `special feeling`:

“I don`t really care about what happened with others,” she said. “There`s no point in making comparisons.”

Asked if she has a special feeling when arriving in Paris:

“It doesn`t matter what feelings I have. Each year is different, so… it doesn`t matter,” Swiatek concluded in the mixed zone after her exit from the Rome tournament.
