Frances Tiafoe: The Level on Tour Right Now is Just Incredible

World No. 12 Frances Tiafoe has attributed the frequent early defeats of top players at Wimbledon to the growing competition on the ATP tour. He himself was eliminated today in the second round, losing to Cameron Norrie with a score of 6/4, 4/6, 3/6, 5/7.

Speaking at a press conference, Tiafoe commented:

“Competition gets tougher every year, and there are more and more high-level players. For example, Cameron Norrie reached the Wimbledon semifinals a couple of years ago, and now we met already in the second round.”

He continued:

“Young players are actively progressing; guys you`ve never even heard of are coming onto the court and competing with you on equal terms. I think tennis has become much more difficult than it was a few years ago. The level on the tour right now is just incredible.”
