British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, recently commented on the controversial topic of mixed-gender exhibition matches, specifically addressing whether she would participate in a match similar to the one scheduled between Aryna Sabalenka and Nick Kyrgios.
The current World No. 29 was skeptical about the idea of taking on a male opponent herself, citing the significant power disparity.
“No. I honestly don`t think anyone would just agree to something like that, to be frank. But for the spectators, it would be really cool. Since it will be the first time this happens, it is certainly interesting to watch,” Raducanu stated.
Raducanu expressed specific curiosity regarding the intensity of the upcoming Sabalenka/Kyrgios matchup.
“I want to see if they both give one hundred percent—that’s the most intriguing part. I probably won’t watch it live, but I will definitely catch the highlights.”
She also reflected on the sheer power differential she experienced during a practice session with a top male player, 2022 US Open winner Carlos Alcaraz.
“I played a little bit with Carlos Alcaraz in New York, and his shots… It seems like he isn`t even trying hard, but they feel incredibly powerful on the strings,” she concluded, illustrating the gap between the ATP and WTA tours.
