Emma Raducanu on Doping Fears: ‘Someone Could Spike a Drink. That’s What I Worry About’

British tennis player Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion and current world No. 49, has expressed significant anxiety regarding the potential for accidentally having a substance prohibited by anti-doping regulations enter her system.

“I don`t want to take anything, even if doctors say I should,” Raducanu stated. “Even if a medication isn`t on the prohibited list, you`re not sure if it`s contaminated with something else.”

She elaborated on specific concerns related to public places: “We could go to a restaurant, and someone could spike our drink. It`s really difficult, especially if you`re recognizable and the waiter knows you. That`s what I really worry about; it makes me nervous every time.”
