Dylan Harper of Spurs Undergoes Thumb Surgery, Aims for Season Opener

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs rookie Dylan Harper underwent surgery to repair a partially torn collateral ligament in his left thumb, an injury sustained during a preseason workout on Wednesday.

By opting for prompt surgery, Harper might be ready for the start of the regular season. The Spurs are scheduled to open their season against Dallas on October 22.

Harper, the No. 2 overall pick in this year`s draft, averaged 16 points in two games for the Spurs at the Las Vegas Summer League in July. In his single collegiate season at Rutgers, he posted an average of 19.4 points before declaring for the draft. He is anticipated to join the two most recent NBA Rookies of the Year — Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle — in San Antonio`s rotation this season.

The Spurs stated that updates on Harper`s condition would be provided as deemed appropriate.
