Djokovic Discusses End of Collaboration with Andy Murray

24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic commented on the end of his collaboration with Andy Murray.

Asked for more details about his parting with Andy Murray, Djokovic said:

“I cannot say more than what was already in our statements. We didn`t originally plan for long-term cooperation. Australia was a kind of test. Then we agreed to work together in Indian Wells and Miami. During the clay season, we decided to evaluate the situation tournament by tournament. Ultimately, we mutually decided to part ways.”

He continued, explaining the reason for the split:

“We felt we couldn`t achieve more from this collaboration on the court. My respect for Andy remained unchanged, and moreover, it even grew because I got to know him better as a person. He has outstanding tennis intelligence, a rare champion`s character. He sees the game incredibly well. But, how to say it, we didn`t achieve the results we were hoping for. Sometimes collaborations work out, sometimes they don`t. We tried.”

Asked who will be his coach now, Djokovic explained his current setup:

“Dusan Vemic, the captain of the Serbian Billie Jean King Cup team, was already part of my team several years ago. He is with me now [in Geneva] and will be at Roland Garros. Boris Bosnjakovic, who was an analyst and assistant coach on my team, will share duties with Dusan for the upcoming tournaments. We`ll see what happens after that. I`m not in a hurry with the choice or decision whether anyone else will be with me. I don`t know yet. I am comfortable with these people.”
