Davidovich Fokina Comments on Maiden Victory Against Andrey Rublev

World No. 30, Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, shared his thoughts on reaching the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona, Spain. In the second round match, Davidovich Fokina defeated world No. 8, Russian player Andrey Rublev.

This victory marks the first for Davidovich Fokina against Rublev in their career head-to-head encounters. Previously, the Spaniard had lost to Rublev five times.

“The five defeats against Andrey were more of a mental hurdle than a tennis one. That`s why I`m happy that I played well strategically today. I knew he would fight no matter the score, and the only option was to fight to the end.

I understood that Andrey is not in his best form right now. It was necessary to capitalize on the important moments,” Davidovich Fokina stated during the press conference.

The match concluded with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
