Former world No. 10 Pablo Carreno Busta had a heated argument with the chair umpire during his second-round match at the Girona Challenger against Iliyan Radulov. The incident occurred during a crucial moment in the third set tie-break.
At 1-0 in the tie-break in favor of Radulov, a lines judge called a ball out after Radulov`s shot. However, the chair umpire overruled the call after inspecting the mark on the court.
Following this decision, Carreno Busta approached the umpire and pushed him in the chest. He repeatedly yelled, “Why? Why? Why at this moment? Call the supervisor! Call the supervisor! (pushes) Call the supervisor! Call the supervisor! Call the supervisor! You can give me a warning, but call the supervisor! (In Spanish.) Come on! Call him. Because you can`t do this, you can`t do this.”
The umpire initially refused to call the supervisor according to the rules, but Carreno Busta insisted, stating he wanted to change the umpire. Eventually, the supervisor came onto the court, and after a 10-minute discussion, the point was replayed and awarded to Carreno Busta.
It is reported that Pablo Carreno Busta received a warning for pushing the umpire.
