The European leg of the Formula 1 season pauses as the series returns across the Atlantic to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix.
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has been a staple on the F1 calendar since 1978, establishing itself as the sport`s longest-standing North American venue, renowned for its exciting races and dramatic moments.
McLaren arrives in Canada in a commanding position in both the Drivers` and Constructors` World Championships, following their second 1-2 finish of the season in Spain. Oscar Piastri has increased his lead in the Drivers` Championship over his teammate Lando Norris to 10 points. The reigning champion Max Verstappen is now 49 points behind after receiving a penalty for a collision with George Russell.
McLaren holds a significant lead in the Constructors` Championship over Ferrari, who recently moved into second place ahead of Mercedes and Red Bull.
This weekend in Montreal is therefore critical for Max Verstappen – who has won the last three Canadian GPs – to stay in realistic contention for the title. Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time winner here (sharing the record), will be hoping the return to this familiar venue helps to revitalize his season.
Alongside F1, the F1 Academy will host its fourth round of the season with three races scheduled for Montreal, after the previous race in Miami was cancelled due to heavy rain.
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve Track Layout

Located on the man-made Notre Dame Island, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, named in honor of the legendary Canadian driver and father of 1997 world champion Jacques, is a favorite among drivers for its high speeds and opportunities for overtaking.
The 2.71-mile track is particularly demanding on brakes, with critical heavy braking zones at the first chicane, the Turn 10 hairpin, and the final chicane following a long straight. The proximity of walls and barriers throughout the circuit adds to the challenge and unforgiving nature of the track.
Even after navigating most of the lap successfully, the infamous `Wall of Champions` on the exit of the final chicane can catch out even slight errors just before the pit straight. Its name originates from the 1999 race when former champions Jacques Villeneuve, Damon Hill, and Michael Schumacher (who was leading at the time) all crashed there.
Canadian GP Weather Forecast in Montreal
While rain has often been a factor during past Montreal race weekends, the current forecast for this year`s event suggests pleasant weather with sunny intervals. Temperatures are currently expected to be in the mid-20s Celsius.
